A promise kept, a world indebted (1/?)

Title: A promise kept, a world indebted
Fandom: Sherlock BBC with possible crossover with The Sentinels, not completely AU
Parings: Sherlock/John
Ratings: R, possible NC-17 later for sex & violence, angst, humor included, you've been warned.

John Watson is not a fool, despite what everybody may think when he stands next to Sherlock Holmes. Then again, everybody is a fool to Sherlock Holmes, so if John Watson is a fool, then it is, after all, ordinary in comparison with the extraordinary brain of the human species.

Sherlock Holmes is an extremely difficult puzzle to anybody else around him, so difficult that those who have tried to figure him out now all end up somewhere behind mental wards in rural Scotland, which no doubt his BAMF of a brother considers a favor to those secret sniffers.
John often wonders, even now, as Sherlock lying right next to him after an exhausted round of lovemaking, how he ends up here.

John Watson invaded Afghanistan. He might look completely ordinary but the corpse of the mad serial killer on the cold stone floor he shot that day in exchange for Sherlock Holmes' life begged to differ. Sherlock Holmes may think he was a complete mystery to the world and John had no doubt that his overstretched ego wanted things to remain that way, but sadly, he was completely transparent to one John Watson.

How? You may ask?

The first time he met Sherlock Holmes, he had been thrown off guard. The way the man had invaded his thoughts, read his background like the back of his hands made John's skin crawled. He should have backed off from sharing a flat with Sherlock, but his ego refused such an insult. He heard the sound of Laine's voice echoed in his head, of the story which said fellow soldier had disclosed to him after John had saved his life in a dire situation.

People like us, know how to survive. There's no point moving if you can't feel the life.

There are creatures out there, which used to be human. There are also two directions you can go when you exclude yourself from human society. One is being inferior, the other, of course, is superior. And no Holmes, either Sherlock or Mycroft, intended to become idiots. They are superiors.

Brilliance came to Sherlock Holmes and he had to pay an unexpected price to get it. He could tell you at a glance whether the victim died of asphyxiation or poison. He could deduce from the fiber of your coat where you have been the last 24 hours and if the mood was snarky enough, he might even tell the world how much sex you had last month, with your wife or a hooker, threesome or foursome, to the point when you, who was not John Watson, told him to FUCK OFF, to the point when he had to put up with the label: Sociopath so that the human race knew how to address him.

The world only saw Sherlock Holmes as a heartless bastard, but the movement of his eyes towards John at the pool that day, and Moriarty's confirmation told John it was not the case, no matter how Sherlock Holmes liked to reassure himself otherwise. He was not a heartless bastard but if the wall around his heart melt away, it might kill him, slowly, incruciatingly.

I know how to hurt
I know how to kill
I know what to show
And what to conceal

John Watson knew better than the rest of the world how Sherlock Holmes risked his life every freaking time he dragged himself to a crime scene with intense emotions whirling around him like death sentence, just waiting for a good chance to swallow him whole. A cry here, a shout there, a frown appeared on Lestrade's face denoted his stress, murmurs discussing forensic evidence. a graveyard greeted him with a full force grieve overwhelmed his senses, so intense that with his current stance, John wondered how that man could survive before he came along and had managed to fight crime to such an intensity.

He never hugged a victim's relative. He chose to ignore the pity of anyone else for her. He chose to snap at idiots whenever their irrelevant thinking process interfered with his superb logic, because if he did not stop them that instant, their trifle logic may cloud his entire brain. There. You got the picture. And his disgust, which may be caused by many, including seeing nauseous faces like Anderson's, would result in an entire week of stomach unease. Mycroft joked that since he had worked with Lestrade, food slowly became a minor attraction, really , the man had taste since he knew all the attention-worthy restaurants London had to offer. Sherlock Holmes had an appetite and those food he considered worth-consuming must be of godly standard.

John, please, come on....John, yes.

If John Watson didn't know better, he might think he was the top one. For god sake, the man swallowed him whole, got inside him, but Sherlock's nerve was singing the entire time, his touch got shaky, his hands got sweaty, and a mere kiss undid him. John's smirks implied that they must practice more frequently if Sherlock wanted to satisfy this guide in the future.

The day he found Sherlock Holmes, the day he answered the dead man floated in his dream

The world is not enough
But it is such a perfect place to start...my love
And if you're strong enough

What if, what if,

John shuddered, not from his astoundingly great orgasm, but from an unnamed fear,

What if Sherlock Holmes, the world's only consulting detective, hadn't been strong enough. Then what would become of him?

The case, the memory of said day, hit him full force, again.

The lyrics in italics, The World is Not Enough. Songwriters: Arnold, David;Black, Don
